About the project

A Collector Site Built Like a Research Tool

VintagePostcards.co connects identification, local history, archives, collecting, and market research without pretending every old card is rare.

The Card Has Two Sides and Three Histories

A postcard is a printed object, a picture of a place or subject, and sometimes a mailed personal document. Good research separates the printing date, image date, and mailing date.

  • Object evidence from stock, back, process, and publisher
  • Image evidence from buildings, vehicles, signs, and landscape
  • Postal evidence from postmark, stamp, and address
  • Documentary evidence from archives, maps, directories, and newspapers

Editorial Standard

We use official institutional sources as starting points, including the Smithsonian Institution Archives, Library of Congress, and Newberry Library. Era labels are trends, not rigid guarantees. Marketplace links are separate from identification claims.
